Powerlifting

There's something calming about the simplicity of the following:

  1. Find something that is almost too heavy to lift, but not quite.
  2. Pick it up
  3. Put it down
  4. Go back to #2 until you can't anymore

Okay, yes...there's a bit more to it than that. Technique, eating right, getting enough sleep, and mental focus are all a part of it. The core, though, is just lifting things over and over again. Easy.

The sheer fundamentalism of weightlifting, the atavism, provides a refreshing break from my overly cerebral academic life.

Soon, I'll be posting my lifting routines. They change occasionally, depending on how my goals shift. I've been asked by a few people what I do in the gym, so it will be arriving soon.

I also have an interest in other types of strength events, like the Highland Games and World's Strongest Man; however, those entail different types of training, so they remain spectator interests.
